HOT ! Dos Hombres Tobala Mezcal｜ Other Products

Tobalá is mezcal's crown jewel agave: a wild highland maguey eight to ten times smaller than espadín, growing in rocky shade beneath copal trees and needing well over a decade — some plants closer to 25 years — to mature, concentrating sugars and aromatics that cultivated agave never develops. Dos Hombres released this limited expression in December 2020, made by third-generation mezcalero Gregorio Velasco in San Luis del Río, Oaxaca: fully matured wild tobalá roasted slowly in underground earthen pits, wild-fermented with mountain spring water, double distilled in copper, and bottled unaged as a joven so nothing masks the plant. Expect a fruity, floral nose of plum, melon, candy, and lavender with pine underneath, opening into honey, cooked agave, rosemary, sage, chocolate, and lilies, with wood and a gentle whiff of smoke on the finish — far subtler smoke than the flagship espadín. Community reviewers call it genuinely next-level, praising the mouthfeel and terroir, with one calling it among the better mezcals they'd had in recent memory; the recurring honest critique is price, with several noting comparable tobalás cost less. The boxed presentation includes a card signed by Bryan and Aaron — a legitimate special-occasion or gift bottle.
